Compression socks and foot pain

Last week, I bought a pair of compression socks. They are open-toe socks that go past my ankles. I wear one on my right foot before I go to bed because my foot pain happens with that foot only.

Last Saturday, I did a lot of walking downtown. The following day, I could feel my foot pain starting. I put on my compression sock immediately. Between one to two hours later, the pain went away.

It seems to be a great purchase. I'll need to test out my theory some more to determine whether it truly works or if this first experience was a coincidence. I'm hoping that it's the former.

Less sleep than expected

Last night, I woke up at 5:30 pm. It was a weird combination of my being warmer than normal, having my right foot start to stiffen up, and my bladder wanting some relief.

I ended up turning on my fan, even though the air conditioning was on. It has been extremely humid lately, but the humidity must have risen overnight for me to sense it. I also took some potassium for my usual right foot issues and attended to my bladder.

After 1.5 hours of being away, which included placing an order for pair of compression socks to help with circulation, I went back to bed and woke up at 9:30 am. I had roughly five hours of sleep. I tend to be functional with five hours of sleep, but crave more of it.

When I came back from running a bunch of errands, I had dinner and took a nap. It explains why I'm still fairly alert, but I'm ready for bed.

Here's hoping that I sleep better tonight.

Long weekend coming up and asleep during an online meeting

I found out that this weekend is a longer one. Yay! I am thinking about extending it by taking a vacation day next Tuesday.

I didn't sleep all that well last night. I had foot pain thanks to doing more driving than I had anticipated on the weekend. I actually fell asleep during an online meeting on Monday morning and I'm pretty sure that no one noticed!

My foot is much better now. I should be able to sleep better tonight.

Foot pain and doctors

I didn't sleep well last night. I woke up to foot pain. It seems to happen once a month. My foot is doing much better now.

I managed to ask that I get a phone call from my doctor later on today. I have been contemplating changing doctors, but it's not the best time during a pandemic.

My work offers connecting virtually to a doctor. I may give that a try and see how that goes.

Foot pain

My foot pain has returned. It was bad on Friday night, but eventually went away and I was able to post here. It's back again.

My way of dealing with it (consuming magnesium, potassium, a banana, and Ibuprofen) helps. What is weird is the length of time that this pain has been with me. I'm not sure why.

Anyway, it's slowly dissipating. Here's hoping that I can kick the pain to the curb soon.

Foot pain relief and back to work

On Sunday morning, at roughly 4:10 am, I woke up to foot pain. It was unpleasant, but I minimized how long it persisted.

I may have figured out how to tame the pain after years of enduring it and trying things out:
  • Potassium (1 tablet)
  • Magnesium (1 tablet)
  • Banana (it has both potassium and magnesium, but it works best with the supplements)
  • Ibuprofen (extra strength)
The pain disappeared an hour later. I drifted off to sleep and then realized that I was okay.

I head back to work in a few hours. I am training virtually, so it will be interesting setting up a laptop remotely. I spent a bit of time on Sunday going through my work inbox, as I know that I won't have time to sift through it all before I conduct training. Fun!

I haven't missed much at work. I didn't miss work while on vacation. I have always been good at detaching work from my personal life.

Foot pain and magnesium

My foot pain returned last night. I still can't pinpoint what triggers it. However, eating a banana does the trick in getting rid of the pain.

Last Friday, I had a phone call appointment with my doctor. I asked what would be an better alternative to eating a banana for this foot pain. She recommended anything green and leafy. She thinks it's the magnesium that is helping me out.

Interesting. It makes sense why I have supplemented potassium and my foot pain occurred regularly. Eating a banana a day has helped reduce the occurrence to once every 1.5 to 2 months.

I do drink a green smoothie daily, except that it's mainly avocado, celery, protein powder, and cucumbers. Last week, I had spinach in it. Perhaps I should keep that up.

I will need to look at magnesium and see if that helps. I love eating bananas, but they get sugary when they get ripe. She says that eating a banana a day is okay and that maybe breaking it up so that I eat half in the morning and half in the afternoon will help.

Poor sleep, but a nap in the day helped!

Last night, I didn't sleep well. It was a combination of staying up late, waking up to a bit of foot pain, and hearing loud noises in the neighbourhood.

Luckily, I had completed the bulk of my work and only had to do some minor updates on Thursday. One of the benefits of working from home is napping when sleepy. It's exactly what I did.

Here's hoping that it'll be quieter and smoother tonight.

Meeting up with friends and experiencing foot pain after quite an absence

On Saturday, I met up with a couple of friends for a late lunch. It felt like we hadn't skipped a beat. We hadn't seen one another since December 2018. It was a great time chatting over food and drinks. We then went shopping for a bit.

I woke up just past 4 am with foot pain. I haven't had it in quite some time. I ate a banana and took some Ibuprofen with root beer that I had made with my Sodastream.

I have been eating bananas daily, which has helped reduce how often I experience foot pain. My thinking with Ibuprofen with root beer is that the carbonation speeds up how quickly the pain relief happens.

Nearly an hour later, my pain was gone and I slept well.

Long weekend and sleep

It's the weekend. A long weekend. Thank goodness!

I didn't sleep well last night. It has been the first time in nearly two months since I have had foot pain. I put so much stress on it trying to set up my new modem that my foot didn't like it and let me know about around 6 am.

I'm hoping to sleep better tonight. Enjoy your weekend!

Waking up early for a work call

It has been a while since I got up at 6:45 am for work. I needed to be on a conference call at 7 am. I haven't had to take this call in nearly two months. This call lasts for four hours.

I oddly woke up just fine. It's amazing how solid my sleep has been for the past week. I haven't had any foot pain since I've reintroduced exercise into my life. I am still eating a banana a day. I need to get it down to half of a banana a day and see how that goes.

The best part about starting my workday early is ending it early. I was so happy to call it quits just after 3:40 pm.

The drawer exercise continues. I only do fifteen minutes of reorganization a day. I have realized that I have more white socks than I had anticipated. I don't wear them to work. I'll need to wear more of them when I work out.

Eating a banana and exercising are helping with my foot pain

The workweek is over. I am thrilled.

I have been sleeping much better since I've made a couple of changes:
  • Exercise more
  • Eat a banana each day
Ever since I have been working from home five days a week, I get uncomfortable pain in my right foot. It wakes me up and I stay awake getting through the day in a zombie-like fashion. I generally get it perhaps once a month, but the frequency has increased as of late.

I first thought that my potassium levels were low. I take supplements, but they didn't do much.

One morning, I woke up with foot pain at 5 am. I decided to eat a banana. Roughly 1.5 hours later, I went back to sleep and my foot pain gradually subsided.

I tested my theory out since then by eating a banana every morning. So far, the pain hasn't returned.

I also think that exercise has played a part. I might adjust the banana routine by having half of one each day and continuing to exercise.

It has been an interesting experiment. I am thankful that the pain hasn't returned and I can sleep better.

Achilles tendon pain and sleep

For a few years now, I have had foot pain. I had a pinched nerve and the foot pain is a consequence.

I have had issues with my achilles tendon as of late. I have pain now and again. It takes most of the day for it to dissipate. I need to stretch it out more often. I woke up to this pain at 5 am on Tuesday and it lasted for most of the day.

Last night, I slept solidly as if I had never slept in my life. It's amazing what 24 hours will do, especially when the pain goes away.

Foot pain, freezing drizzle, snow, and mending

I had excruciating foot pain at around 3 am. It was likely from all the walking that I had done yesterday. I couldn't go back to sleep after consuming some Ibuprofen.

On top of that, there was freezing drizzle, followed by snow. I decided to reschedule my lunch meeting with my friend for Tuesday. It worked out well for her, as she had to clean up her laptop before returning it, and she needed more time. She welcomed the extra day.

I have spent my day getting rid of my foot pain in my hotel room. The pain finally subsided a few hours ago. I managed to nap a couple of times, so I am feeling much better.

It's a good thing that I am a planner. I had bought groceries last night, so I heated up food for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I even have dessert! More importantly, my foot pain generally gets better when I have foods rich in potassium. I brought supplements. However, I also bought a carton of soy beverage, which has potassium. Two glasses later, my foot pain went away.

It has been quite the day. I look forward to heading out later on today. I hope that the road conditions are much better. The snow is supposed to stop soon.

Foot pain and sleep

I have muscle pain in my right foot now and again. It was pretty bad a few hours ago. I find that Ibuprofen works. It does take a few doses to completely get rid of the pain.

It's painful when I'm trying to drive and I feel this sharp, surging pain happening in my foot. Luckily, it has subsided. I was exhausted from the pain that, when it finally died, I took a nap for a couple of hours ago.

Here's hoping that I can sleep well tonight. Luckily, I am working from home today.

Spoke too soon and had another horrible night of sleep

I have figured out why I haven't slept well recently. I consumed strawberry black tea just before I had muscle spasm issues in my right foot and ended up having a couple of sleepless nights this week.

On Thursday night, I went out to redeem a couple of coupons for a free movie and popcorn at the local movie theatre. On my way home, I stopped by my favourite bubble tea store to get a strawberry black tea.

My guess is that the black tea had so much caffeine that it kept me up longer than it typically does. I normally am okay consuming it before 11 pm. However, for the past couple of nights, I finished the drink well past midnight.

I got through my day on Friday pretty sleepy. I went out for dinner with a couple of friends, came home, and slept for an hour in front of the TV. Ah, good times!

Slept like a log - yay!

Two nights ago, I slept for a grand total of 3.5 hours. That total was interrupted sleep. Last night, I slept like a log. Six hours later, I needed to go on yet another teleconference.

For a good minute, I wanted to skip it and sleep in. I then woke up and knew that I needed to get on with my day.

I felt incredibly rested. My muscle spasms are nearly gone. It's weird, but I am glad that this pain doesn't happen too often.

Foot and muscle pain sucks when you want to sleep

Now and again, I get muscle spasms in my right foot. It was pretty bad last night. I woke up at nearly 4 am to pain.

I can't recall how many ibuprofen pills I managed to take. It was strange, but I had a mini panic attack. My bedroom was getting hot, mainly because of my tossing and turning in bed along with the heating kicking in. I had to drink some water and eat a protein bar to ease things for me. I also took long breaths, which helped.

I didn't go back to bed, but I had a conference call at 7 am. I said hi at the beginning and actually fell asleep for nearly two hours. Hopefully, I wasn't called upon to say anything. This meeting call ended up being just under four hours.

Part of me wanted to call in sick. However, I took it easy working from home, as the muscle pain lasted all day, with it dying off right about now.

Some days are rough. Here's hoping that tomorrow will be much better.

Olympics are over, but the Paralympics begin soon

The Olympics are officially over. I am proud of how the Canadian athletes performed.

I am now going through withdrawal symptoms. I am pleased that the Paralympics are next. However, I wish that there was more television exposure.

This weekend, I have been dealing with toe spasms in my right foot. I have foot spasms now and again, thanks to nerve damage from a pinched nerve years ago. It was pretty bad on Saturday. It lasted practically all day and was extremely painful at times.

I have a feeling that it was a combination of feeling cramped at a restaurant on Friday at lunch and a lack of potassium in my system caused this pain. I hydrated a ton of Saturday, ate a banana, popped Ibuprofen, and decided to take it easy. My toes are doing much better today.

I'm thankful and relieved.
