Roles - reversed and maintained

In our relationship, I tend to be the one who is punctual. My guy is the tardy one.

Our roles got reversed today.

I left 1.5 hours before we were to meet at 13:30 for lunch. There was a ton of construction everywhere that I ended up needing an extra twenty minutes to get to the restaurant.

My guy called me just before 13:30.
"Hey, there. Where is the restaurant?" he asked me.
"When you get off the highway and travel south, you are turning right, and then right into the parking lot," I pointed out.
"Cool. I'm nearly there," he advised.
"I'm not. It's pretty bad on the roads,"  I replied.
"It's okay. Take your time," he said.
My guy rarely worries. However, he was concerned when he still didn't see me. I had pulled into the parking lot when he was leaving me a voice message.
"I didn't want to think that you were in a car accident or something," he said.
"I'm okay. It's just horrible road work and traffic today," I replied.
We had forty minutes to eat lunch, which was more than enough time for us to eat and chat.

My guy being directionally challenged and my giving him directions showed that we didn't change our roles there.

Dentist, dry mouth, and Internet connection problems... fun!

On Tuesday, I had a dentist appointment at 9 am. I had pointed out to my team that I would be away for roughly 1.5 hours and then would continue working from home.

I typically have a one-on-one meeting with my manager every other Tuesday at 10:30 am. He sent me an e-mail, asking if he needed to reschedule. I said no, which should have been implied that I would make it home in time.

My regular teeth-cleaning and exam appointment has been fairly uneventful for a few years now. Sure, I have had three different hygienists (not my fault), but my teeth not having any issues have been the constant.

Sure enough, my appointment was over just after 10 am. I drove to Starbucks to get an iced black tea, and then drove home. I was home well before 10:30 am.

I have dry mouth. I am not sure whether I have mentioned it in my blog, but I have had it for over a decade. Going to the dentist makes the condition worse for a bit, as you have your mouth open for most of the appointment and the suction tool that is used doesn't make things better! It's the usual thirty-minute wait after you have your fluoride rinse where you can drink anything.

By the time I got my drink, I could consume it. Yay!

Anyway, I got home and noticed that my connections to various servers on my laptop had died. I also didn't have wifi on my phone. Sure enough, my modem-router needed to be rebooted. I knew that I would be down when 10:30 am hit.

I have our corporate messaging app on my phone. I dialled into my meeting that way, so I was on time.

My manager is constantly late. Today, I hoped that he truly was late. Someone was on my side. He was late by fifteen minutes.

I rebooted my laptop. My wifi was up and running. All was well. I dialled in through my laptop, which was essential for me to share information on my screen with him.

My manager finally got to the office and dialled in. He asked again whether we should reschedule. I said no. We could do our meeting in thirty minutes.

The last one-on-one meeting was horrific. He was in a foul mood. Today, he was much better. He said that there should be more employees like me. I took that compliment, as it is rare for him to dish it out. I hope that he stays nice for a while.

Tardy guy surprises me with an early welcome

I arrived in my guy's town at around 18:00 on Saturday. My guy texted me.
"Hey, are you at the hotel?" he asked me.
"Yes, I just checked in. You can swing by whenever you're ready," I wrote back.
"Are you good if I swing by at 19:00?" he asked me.
"Sure," I replied, providing the hotel room number.
My guy tends to be tardy. I am the punctual one.

He knocked on the door at 18:45. Miracles happen.

I opened the door. He had a huge smile on his face. He walked in. We hugged and kissed.
"You're early," I said, surprised.
"Yes. I couldn't wait to see you," he said sweetly.
I'm glad that he showed up early.

Grumbling, shopping, caressing, and driving

On Friday, I decided to take a vacation day. Without knowing it, I did a good job avoiding some issues at work.

I gave my home phone number a while back to my manager when he needed to talk to me and I was working from home. I have noticed that when he panics, he tends to use it to call me. I'm not that crazy about it.

The other weekend, he asked for my cell phone. I refused politely and said that he had my number. He said that it was my home phone number. I told him that it is tied to my cell number, which is true.

The thing is that my home number is my away-from-work number. I don't want to hear about work, especially when I am on vacation.

Well, on Friday, my day off, he let me a message to tell me that the new contractor that I had been training for two days decided to resign. He cited personal reasons -- his mother is sick. That's fine. However, is it worth it to leave me a voice message when he has already mentioned it a couple of times in work e-mails?

Anyway, it was good that I didn't give him my cell phone number. When he did leave that message, I was in my guy's hometown. He had called me and didn't see me at our favourite liquidation place. I advised that the route that I normally take had a road closure close to the liquidation centre. So, my detour was an extra five minutes away.

It tends to be a madhouse at this place. You get the best bargains at 10 am sharp. To make my guy get up early and snap out of sleepyhead mode, you have to tell him that there is a sale going on.

We met in the store. I couldn't find a bag to put my two items in. My guy had snagged a bag and told me to place my items in his bag. I did. We then split up to look for bargains. He came back about fifteen minutes later with a cart. Yep, he's a pretty savvy shopper.

He looked stylish. I admired his clean-shaven head when he removed his cap for a brief moment.

We chatted and talked about our purchases. He asked me what I thought about his new shirt that he had snagged. It was almost a light pink with blue stripes. I liked it. It's a nice departure from his typical grey, blue, and brown colours.

I bought three pairs of designer pants for a combined total of $20. Yep, I was so happy with my purchases that I haven't done much shopping this weekend.

After we had checked out, my guy walked me over to my car to help me load my goodies into my car. I told him that he looked good and asked if I could caress his head. He took his cap off. I helped myself. I love when he has shaved his head. It's sexy and highlights how perfectly uniform the shape of his head is.

I had to make tracks to Windsor, which is across from Detroit, for a concert that evening. My guy and I were happy that we could spend time together saving money and shopping. It is always great to shop with him.
