Chatting about food while driving home

It's a good thing that my guy and I didn't make plans after he got off the plane on Saturday. It sounds odd, but it'll make sense when I describe the whole ordeal.

His flight was delayed by half an hour. Ten other flights had arrived when his did. There was a huge lineup to do the customs declaration and even a longer time talking to a border official.

He called me at nearly 17:00. He should have been home by that time, but he had just picked up his car. We were both driving home, in the same direction, but our starting points were off by about 200 km.

Instead, we talked about food.
"I really love the powdered low-carb peanut butter that you got me. I love it. I took it with me on this trip," he said.
"I'm glad," I replied.
"I also got a beef shawarma wrap at the restaurant that we were at last weekend. It's so authentic and tasty," he said.
"I'm happy that you love the food there. It's my favourite shawarma place," I noted. "I can't find a decent one close to home."
"You may want to try Scarborough. There are a bunch of Middle Eastern places," he suggested.
"That makes sense. I'll check it out sometime," I replied.
We chatted for just under an hour, which was enough time for both of us to arrive home safely.

Changing restaurants, stepping up and down, and being a gentleman

I got tired of eating at the same Afghani restaurant three times last week. The fact that my order was messed up on all three occasions put a damper on my mood.

At noon, my guy called me on Friday and said that he was downstairs. I said that I'd be there in five minutes.

He wasn't downstairs, but I noticed that his car was parked outside. Nice!

I walked over and I got in.
"Are you good if we try shawarma today?" I asked him.
"Sure," he said. "I love shawarma."
"I know. When you called me a while back and I said that I was at a shawarma place, it's this one that we'll be going to. It's good," I noted.
"That's good," he replied.
"Turn left at the lights," I said, as if I were a GPS.
"I love your voice. I wish that your voice were on my GPS," he noted.
We walked into the restaurant. I told him to watch his step. He was impressed at how spacious the place was.

I got the chicken shawarma dinner, which comes with rice and salad. He got what I used to order, which was the beef shawarma with hummus.

He loved his meal. He even asked if he could take some of my pita. I was glad that he did, as I couldn't finish all my pita. I did polish off my entire meal.

When we left, he led. I didn't realize that he didn't see the step.
"That was an unexpected drop," he replied.
"That's because I didn't say to watch your step like I did before," I noted.
He got to his car and opened the car door for me. He's such a gentleman.

It has been a nice couple of weeks seeing him at the office. I was getting sad that I wouldn't see him this often, but he said that we'll try and plan something out.

Work-related question, almond beverage, and thoughtfulness

On Saturday, my guy missed me so much that he wanted to talk to me before and after his course. He is sweet that way.

The second chat that we had over the phone, I was having a late lunch at a shawarma place. He recommended that I get the beef shawarma. It was nice that he was keeping me company and making a food suggestion while I was there.
"I have a work-related question," he stated.
"What happened to your usual by-the-way lead-in, which tips me off that it's work-related?" I asked.
"I didn't want to alarm you, but I guess that I should have started it off that way," he admitted.
He described his issue. I told him the scoop and advised that I would provide links to the work that my team produces. His work is now dependent on what my team writes. It's isn't a newsflash, but it puts pressure on his group to deliver faster.
"You're lucky that you have me to help you out here," I pointed out.
"I'm lucky to have you all the time. I owe you a lot," he said.
"You're so mushy. You did buy me almond beverage from our favourite liquidation place," I said.
"Yes. Don't forget to take them from me tomorrow," he advised.
"We'll need to do it before our date. Otherwise, we'll both forget," I stated.
"True. I can't wait to see you."
He's thoughtful and sweet. I'm lucky to have him.
