With a nice honour come drama

On Thursday, I got acknowledged on a platform that I am one of the top reviewers in my area. I am honoured and shared that news, which a friend had tagged me on, on Instagram.

I have another friend that I have known since we were in grade 8. She basically made a stupid, insensitive, unfounded remark in this chat exchange:

"You eat out a lot," she stated.
"Not really. I do takeout twice a week. Reviews aren't all food."

I proceeded to show the last five reviews that I had completed. Only one was a food review. I didn't have to. I did it to prove a point to her.

I was annoyed at her comment. Why can't she simply say congrats? Why make such a ridiculous, random, unfounded statement? I actually told her that it was a momentous occasion for me and to let me enjoy it.

Her statement can also be construed as targeting my weight. I feel that it's some sort of internal issue that she has. She sees a happy moment that I am soaking up and she can't stand it. She needs to ruin my day by lashing out with a false statement about me.

I do have a number of supportive friends who got me through this drama that I was not expecting. I'm so fortunate.

What top goes well with palazzo pants for a black tie gala?

On Tuesday, I was asked to be a part of a black tie gala. The main reason? I am a finalist for at least one award.

Here's the weird thing. Apparently, I'm not eligible for this award if I don't go. It's odd to me. I would like to think that it was worded this way because it would look weird to win the award fair and square, and not be in attendance.

Anyway, there is never a guarantee to win anything. I should just go, have free food and booze, and be thankful to have been nominated. However, I have a good feeling that my hard work all last year has paid off.

The bigger concern is what to wear. I don't go to such formal events.

I have two items of clothing that are chiffon and look fancy: a black skirt and a pair of dark brown palazzo pants.

The black skirt is too large on me. I have lost weight since I last wore it a good eight years ago. The palazzo pants fit perfectly and I like how it flows on me.

Here's my question: What top to I wear with palazzo pants? A nice, slightly fitted black sweater? A cap-sleeved sweater with a blouse underneath? I haven't got a clue.

It's the main reason why I didn't jump on being a part of this event. I am not fancy. I like wearing jeans and a t-shirt. I like staying at home, in my pajamas, snacking and drinking pop.

It's only for a couple of hours. I will be okay.

Busy week and a chat with my guy

This week at work has been busy, but in a good way. Two new interns and a writer who is transferring from one location to ours have all arrived. I have been training all three. It has been good so far.

Next week, my guy is in the office to train a different batch of employees. I admire what my guy does for a living. I only do this sort of training when we have new hires. So, it happens quarterly for me, and continues being both fresh and interesting. With my guy, it happens every other week, it seems.

He has told me that he feels like he is a broken record. He delivers the same content. I suggested that he spice it up a bit. He told me that I'm not in any of his classes to make that happen.
"You can join my department and work under me," I hinted.
"I'd like to be on top of you," he said with a smile.
"I bet you would. You could sleep your way to the top," I suggested.
"Yes. I would mind being on the bottom, either."
He could. It wouldn't surprise me. I'd like all of that, too.
