Weekend thoughts about cooking

Just like that, the weekend is over.

On Sunday, I made beef burger soup and meatballs with sauce. They both turned out well. I'm happy that I have leftovers that should last for most of this week.

I find cooking enjoyable on Sundays. It's simply sad that weekends tend to be shorter than we'd all like!

Lunar new year is next week. I placed an order for some snacks. I get to pick them up this Friday. Yay!

Rediscovering neighbourhoods and new good eats

During my vacation, it has been fun rediscovering neighbourhoods that I have frequented in the past. Coupled with getting good eats, I have enjoyed my ventures here and there.

Within walking distance in my neighbourhood is a Hong Kong-style eatery that opened a few months ago. I finally got around to ordering its signature beef brisket with thin noodles and this dish was fantastic. There were four different noodle options. I may need to try them all!

I also got the beef brisket macaroni in tomato sauce dish. Both were 50% off. Insane, but a great deal.

Poutine and fries

I went out to fetch some dinner on Tuesday night. I craved poutine, which is a Canadian dish. It's fries, with cheese curds, smothered in gravy. This place puts smoked meat on top.

I have a love-hate relationship with fries. I grew tired of them as a standard side with everything. Burger and fries. Fried chicken and fries. Sandwich with fries. Ugh!

There are some places where I don't mind getting fries. Costco has amazing fries that are lightly coated with batter before they are deep-fried. I like them with gravy. I also love McDonald's fries.

As of late, if I don't like the fries, I need some sauce or condiment to dip them in. It could be curry sauce, ketchup, or basil mayo. Otherwise, I will skip getting fries as a side, and go with either a side salad or onion rings.

Poutine is perfect. I get fries, cheese curds, and gravy. It's the perfect trinity of goodness in my books.

My smoked meat poutine was fabulous. I have been craving it for a while and I'm good now.
