Cough, congestion, and my first day at the office?

I am still congested and dealing with a hacking cough. On a good note, the mucus and phlegm production is slowly easing.

I have decided to take a sick day on Wednesday. I was hoping to catch up on my blog posts, but all the coughing that I have been doing is draining my energy reservoir.

It snowed today while I was in the office, so the drive home was horrible. For some reason, a light dusting of snow scares Canadians. Sheesh!

Anyway, I wanted to share a quick story. On Monday, I got into an elevator with an older woman and a guy. The guy got off on the second floor. The doors closed and the elevator continued going up.
"Is today your first day?" she asked me.
"No," I replied. "Does it look like it's my first day on the job?"
"Oh, I just see a number of new faces around here."
I take that either as a compliment that I looked fresh-faced for a Monday morning. I could also take it as my looking clueless or lost.

Who knows? Maybe it was all of the above!

    1. Thanks, Jay! I am taking my second sick day today. I felt a lot better yesterday sleeping through most of the day. I do feel tired, though, which explains why I haven't wanted to blog recently.

  2. I vote for all of the above, girl with the naughty name. A week home and you are a new face around here? What is the average length of employment of the people that work in your place??

Oh, I feel a cold coming, but I can't be sick. After two days nobody knows my name anymore!

    1. Tee hee! Sometimes, it's good that no one knows your name. My guy and I have been with this company for more than four years (it's closer to five for him), so we are both known to many.

The turnover rate isn't too high. However, given how ridiculous some of our deadlines are these days, I wouldn't be surprised to see people leave.

As for me, I stay on because I have established myself that I want to see what lies ahead of me. I would change jobs if I found a comparable one closer to where I live. In general, I love what I do that it isn't worth the change right now.

  3. Hope you get to feeling better soon CB...Sending lots of healing energy and positive thoughts your way! Sorry you had such a rough drive home...everyone is much safer if I'm not on the roads during bad weather. ;) Maybe the woman on the elevator got new glasses and was now able to see everyone's faces for the first time! :D

    Hugs and Blessings...

    1. Thanks, Cat! It is my second day calling in sick and resting. I don't think that driving home the other day in a light dusting of snow helped, either!

Maybe that woman needs new glasses... LOL!
